Nature, the heavens, and other works of creation show forth the goodness, wisdom, and power of God.

Thus, people who deny the existence of God are without excuse.
Since the creation of the world God's invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse Rom 1.20

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.
Ps 19.1-4
However, God's creative works alone do not communicate a saving knowledge of God's nature and will.   [Jesus prayed...] This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3

For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
1 Cor 1:21

The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Cor 2:14
In the past, therefore, God further revealed Himself and His will by speaking to us through His prophets, and through His Son, Jesus.   God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds Heb 1:1-2
God caused His revelations to be preserved in written form -- the Holy Bible -- for all people throughout the ages.   The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them, O LORD, You shall preserve them from this generation forever. Ps 12.6-7

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
Rom 15:4 [See also Luke 1:3-4; Matt. 4:4, 7, 10; Isa. 8:20]
It is by means of God's Holy Scriptures that you can attain wisdom unto salvation, and receive life everlasting.   The Holy Scriptures are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Tim 3:15

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
1 John 5.13 [See also 2 Pet 1.19; John 20:31; 1 Cor. 10:11; 14:37]
Every word of the Holy Bible is God-breathed.

Although God used men to speak and record His words, those men spoke and wrote exactly as they were moved to do so by the Holy Spirit.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness 2 Tim 3:16

Prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
2 Pet 1:21
God has decreed that His Bible is to be your only authority in matters of faith and worship.

The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith and obedience -- NOT human traditions and rules -- but God's Word only.
[God said...] In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. Mt 15.9

If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.
1 John 5.9

Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
Col 2.20-23
God commands that you shall neither add to, nor take away from the Words He has revealed in His Bible.   Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it. Deu 12.32

If we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1.8

If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Isa 8.20b

If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Rev 22.18b-19

Some parts of the Bible are, at first, difficult to understand.

This is because the Bible was written to be useful for all levels of spiritual maturity...

  • Accordingly, the Bible contains "milk" -- things that are easy to understand.
  • It also contains "solid food -- things that are more difficult to understand.
  • Trust God -- what you need to understand, you WILL understand.
  • And, each time you read, more verses will be opened unto you.
[Some parts of Paul's epistles contain...] things which are hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 2 Pet 3.16b

As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.
1 Pet 2.2

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Heb 5.14
However, those Truths which must be known and believed NOW, so as to receive salvation, are stated so clearly that even a child can understand them.   The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple Ps 19.7b

[
Spoken to God...] The entrance of Your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple. Ps 119.130

Studying the Bible should arouse your best and most active faculties. That is why you are commanded to search the Scriptures, not simply to read them.

  • Your Bible is the great repository of all the truths and mysteries of your faith.
  • Your Bible is a rich mine that you ought to dig into and shall never exhaust.
  • Gold and diamonds lie concealed in the depths of the earth. So also, the most valued things of revelation are concealed by God from the common view of the world.
  • Search the Scriptures every day, and you shall surely unearth many great treasures that your Father has put there -- just for YOU!
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Tim 2.15

[
Jesus said...] You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. John 5.39

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Ps 119.105

I have not departed from the commandment of God's lips. I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.
Job 23.12

The law of the LORD is perfect,
converting the soul.
The testimony of the LORD is sure,
making wise the simple.

The statutes of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart.
The commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is clean,
enduring forever.
The judgments of the LORD are true
and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold.
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.
Ps 19.7-11

The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.
Isa 40.8

[
God said...]
My Word shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Isa 55.11

The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Heb 4.12

"Is not My word like a fire?" says the LORD, "And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?"
Jer 23.29

Jesus said said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'"
Mt 4.4
Fred W. Cropp, president of American Bible Society, received a letter asking a question:

"What do you recommend for keeping the leather on the back of Bibles from getting stiff, then cracking and peeling?

Mr. Cropp's reply was:

"Palm oil! It is the one oil that is especially good for treatment of leather on Bibles. In fact it will insure your Bible will stay in good condition. It is not sold, but may be found in the palms of your own hands."
Little Sara was on a train, traveling west to California at mid-day. Suddenly she noticed that someone had turned on all the lights in their car.

Sara said, "Mother, it's the middle of the day and the sun is shining. Why did they turn on the lights?"

Before her mother could answer, the train plunged into a long, dark tunnel. Sara instantly understood why the lights had been lit.

Dear friend, your Bible contains many verses that might seem very ordinary and unnecessary to you right now. But some day, when you enter the dark tunnels of suffering or temptation, you will value and appreciate God's lamps of truth and hope and comfort. Amen
