Part I (Recent History): Seven *Selected Key Events* of New Testament Days |
#1 Birth of the Messiah
Therefore, when He [Jesus] came into the world, He said [to
God the Father]: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,
but a body [the fetus in Mary's womb] You have prepared for Me." Heb
10.5 ...although He [Jesus] existed in the form of God, [He] did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped [clung to], but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Phil 2.6-7 |
...before they [virgin Mary and her betrothed, Joseph] came together [before they were married and started having sexual relations], she [Mary] was found with child [Jesus] of the Holy Spirit. Mt 1.18b
...the days were completed for her [virgin Mary] to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son [Jesus], and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Lk 2.6a-7
| #2 Messiah's unconditional covenant to assemble God's church [the called-out people who believe in Lord Jesus]. | [God has...]
made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in
the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which
are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him. Eph
1.9-10 [Jesus said...] I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Mt 16.18 |
| #3 Messiah's High Priestly prayer for God to bless and preserve His church [the called-out people who believe in Lord Jesus]. | [Jesus said...] I pray for them [the church]. I pray not for the world, but for them which You have given me; for they are Yours. And all mine are Yours, and Yours are mine; and I am glorified in them. John 17.9-10 | |
| #4 God judges His church for sin [past, present, future], in and through the atoning death of Lord Jesus on the cross. | He [Jesus] was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The
chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Isa 53.5 For He made Him [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Cor 5.21 So when Jesus had received the vinegar, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19.30 |
| #5a 1st Resurrection - Firstfruits: God resurrects the Messiah. | But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those [believers] who have fallen asleep [died]. ...For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming. 1 Cor 15.20, 15.22-23 | |
| #5b 1st Resurrection - Firstfruits: God resurrects the Old Testament saints (see further analysis in the next panel) | Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. Mt 27.51-53 | |
| Further analysis concerning resurrection of OT saints: The verses to the left indicate
that, during the three-day period that Jesus's body lay in the tomb, His spirit descended into the lower parts
of the earth... * Jesus descended into the lower parts of the earth in order that He could to preach the gospel of His atoning death to the Old Testament saints who had died and were waiting there. * At last their long wait was over. What rejoicing there must have been! * When Abraham, Moses, David, Job, and all the other Old Testament saints received the gospel, they simultaneously received Jesus's atonement for their sins. * When Jesus ascended to heaven, He took with Him the spirits of His beloved Old Testament saints. |
Now this, "He (Jesus) ascended'' what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts
of the earth? Eph 4.9 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison... 1 Pet 3.18-19 For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 1 Pet 4.6 When He (Jesus) ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men. Eph 4.8b |
| #6 Forty days after His resurrection, Jesus returns to Heaven. | Now when He [Jesus] had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud
received Him out of their sight. Acts 1.9 But this Man [Jesus], after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God [in Heaven]... For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Heb 10.12, 10.14 |
| #7 Israel-in-part is spiritually blinded, pending attainment of the fulness of the Gentiles. | For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. Rom 11.25 | |
Part II (On-going Events): *Selected Key Events* of the Present Days |
| God begins regathering the Jews into Israel [1948] The nation of Israel is re-established. God commences to re-gather the Jews into Israel, in preparation for the Tribulation. This regathering continues even as you read this study. |
[God said...] Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation [unbelieving Israel], before the decree is issued, or the day passes like chaff, before the LORD'S fierce anger comes upon you, before the day of the LORD'S anger [the Tribulation] comes upon you! Zeph 2.1-2
| The Decree! The Lamb [Lord Jesus] receives the 7-sealed scroll. He begins to remove each of the seals from that scroll. |
I looked, and lo, in the midst of the throne [of God] and of the
four Zoa, amidst the elders, a Lamb [Jesus, the
Lamb of God] stood, as if it had been slain... And He came and
took the scroll out of the right hand of Him sitting on the throne. And they [the Zoa and the elders] sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation." Rev 5.6a-7, 5.9 |
The present era, wherein we are now witnessing...
[Jesus said...]
Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, "I am He [the Messiah],"
and, "The time [of Messiah's return] has drawn near." Therefore do not go after them. When you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. Lk 21.8-11 |

Part III (Soon-coming Events): *Selected Key Events* of the Near Future |
The Rapture of believers in Christ
We [believers in Christ] shall not all sleep [die], but we shall all be changed [glorified] -- in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed [glorified]. ...The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1 Cor 15.51-52 and 1 Thes 4.16-17 [see also John 11.25-26, John 14.1-3, Rev 3.10]
Side Note
| The Holy Spirit, who indwells God's church, departs when God's church
departs. Thus, the Holy Spirit's restraint upon sin on the earth is taken out of the way. |
And now you know what is restraining, that he [Antichrist] may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 2 Thes 2.6-7
The judgment of believers in Christ
We [believers
in Christ] must all appear before the judgment seat [bema] of
Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
2 Cor 5.10 Each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 1 Cor 3.13-15 [Rom 14.10b-12, 1 Cor 4.1-5, 1 Cor 9.24-27] |
Nuptials
For I am jealous for you [the
church] with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband,
that I may present you as a chaste virgin [bride] to Christ. 2
Cor 11.2 ...the marriage of the Lamb [Christ] has come, and His wife [the church] has made herself ready." And to her [the church] it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Rev 19.7b-8 |
