Brief review of Study #2
The *Trigger* that starts the Tribulation is the signing of a Peace Covenant between Antichrist and the nation Israel...

  • The world will see this covenant as a wonderful treaty that will at last bring peace to Planet Earth.
  • God, however, calls the treaty by the name it truly deserves -- a covenant with death.
  • Why does God call it a covenant with death? Because Antichrist's secret goal for making this covenant is the DEATH of Israel's very existence on the earth.
Then he [Antichrist] shall confirm a covenant with many [leaders of Israel] for one week Dan 9.27a

[God tells Israel...] Your covenant with death [a symbol of Antichrist] will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol [the grave - a symbol of Antichrist] will not stand. When the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trampled down by it. Isa 28.18

Onset of the Tribulation

  • With Israel's signing of the Covenant of Death, the great day of God's wrath will come.
  • The Tribulation will begin.
He [Jesus] opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood.

And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For
the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?" Rev 6.12, 6.15-17

3 messages from God

Repeatedly, at various times during the 7-year period of the Tribulation, God will send 3 offers of salvation to the people of earth

  • Offer #1 [sealed evangelists] - God seals 144,000 Jewish evangelists to be a testimony to the world about salvation.
I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed Rev 7.4
  • Offer #2 [Miracle-working prophets] - God anoints two prophets to work attesting miracles and preach on Planet Earth for 1,260 days.
I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth. ...These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.

When they finish their testimony, the beast
[Antichrist] that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. Rev 11.3, 11.6-7
  • Offer #3 [The angel flying in the midst of heaven] - God sends an angel to circle the earth, loudly proclaiming God's everlasting gospel. That messenger from God is seen and heard by each and every person in the world.
Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth -- to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people -- saying with a loud voice, "Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water." Rev 14.6-7
Part II: Selected key events that will take place during the Tribulation
Praise for God's offers of salvation

Raptured believers assemble at God's throne in heaven, to praise God's continuing offers of salvation to the people of earth [as detailed in Part I above.]
I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" Rev 7.9-10
7 Trumpet Judgments

Seven angels sound seven trumpets, one after the other, and thereby bring judgments of destruction upon the world.
So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. Rev 8.6

And I looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth..."
Rev 8.13a

Here are just a few examples of those terrible judgments...

  • Hail and fire are flung down from heaven.
  • A huge, burning meteorite is thrown into the sea
  • Flaming meteorites fall into the earth's rivers and lakes
  • A pervasive darkness falls over the earth
  • A plague of locusts sweeps over the land and seas
  • An army of 200 million demon horsemen is released to rampage across the face of the world.

  • Hail and fire were thrown to the earth.
  • A great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea
  • A great star from heaven, burning like a torch, fell on the rivers and on the springs of water.
  • The sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened.
  • Out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth.
  • Then came an army of horsemen, 200 million strong, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone.

Extracted from Rev 8.7-12, 9.3-17

Despite God's repeated offers of salvation -- despite the visible manifestation of God's presence and power -- most people refuse to repent!

Instead, they continue to revel in lust and evil and sin, and to admire the wicked works of Satan and his Antichrist.
The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols....
And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
Rev 9.20-21

Invasion of Israel

  • After three-and-one-half-years of the Tribulation, Antichrist breaks the Peace Covenant with Israel.
  • The armies of Antichrist then invade Israel, the Glorious Land.
He [Antichrist] shall also enter the Glorious Land [Israel], and many countries shall be overthrown; Dan 11.41a [see also Dan 9.27]
Antichrist enters Jerusalem and sets up an *abomination of desolation* in the rebuilt temple of God.   When you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Mt 24.15-16 [ref Dan 9.27]

...the man of sin
[Antichrist] is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 2 Thes 2.3b-4
Archangel Michael, whom God has appointed as guardian over Israel, rises to Israel's defense.   At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over your people [Daniel's kinsmen: the people of Israel] Dan 12.1a

War breaks out in heaven...

  • Michael and God's angels do battle against Satan and his angels.
  • Satan and his angels will be defeated, and cast OUT of heaven, and cast DOWN to earth.
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon [Satan]; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did NOT prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon [Satan] was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Rev 12.7-9

Upon being cast down to the earth, Satan realizes that he has only a short time remaining until God deals with him...

  • Satan's wrath will fall upon God's people throughout the world.
  • Most especially, Satan will make yet another concerted attempt to annihilate the people of Israel.
Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.

Now when the dragon
[Satan] saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman [Israel] who gave birth to the male Child [Messiah Jesus]. Rev 12.12b-13

Israel flees from Satan

  • The people of Israel will flee into the wilderness.
  • In a special place God will preserve Israel, safe from Satan's attacks, for 3½ years [the 2nd half of the Tribulation].
But the woman [Israel] was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time [3½ years], from the presence of the serpent. Rev 12.14
Emperor of the World!

Energized by Satan, Antichrist will achieve total domination -- economically, politically, and religiously -- over all nations and peoples of the world.
And he [Antichrist] was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months [3 X 12 months + 6 months = 42 months = 3½ years]. ...And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. Rev 13.5, 13.7b
7 Bowl Judgments [7 vials]
Toward the final months of the Tribulation, seven angels will pour out seven bowls [or vials] of wrath upon Planet Earth.
Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth." Rev 16.1

As noted in Part I above, God's offers of salvation will continue to be LOUDLY and REPEATEDLY proclaimed to the world.

  • Some people will repent and receive God as Savior.
  • Revelation 20.4 tells us that most of the folks who receive Jesus during the Tribulation will be slain by Satan or Antichrist.
  • Amazingly, however, great masses of people will reject God's offers. Instead, they will CHOOSE to cling to Satan and sin and death!
And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. Rev 16.9b

They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and
did not repent of their deeds. Rev 16.11
